Troutman Funeral Home - about

North Carolina natives Jim and Susan Sappenfield opened Troutman Funeral Home in 1989 and have faithfully served the community for more than 20 years.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the industry, Jim knew he wanted to be a funeral director at a very young age. He has always had a passion for helping families in their times of need. Jim was born in Kannapolis, N.C., and is a graduate of Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. He did his apprenticeship under Senator Ollie Harris and Bennett Masters at Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain, N.C. After graduating from Gupton Jones, he worked at Mitchell Funeral Home in Raleigh, N.C., and Cavin Funeral Home in Mooresville, N.C.

Susan is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She has completed the AICPA’s Elder Care program and periodically gives presentations to groups on senior issues. Susan was born in Asheville, N.C. Her father was raised on the Biltmore Estate, where her grandfather was a caretaker for the dairy.

Jim and Susan’s dedication and the caring staff at Troutman Funeral Home will make you feel right at home. Contact us today if we can be of assistance in your time of need.
